In order to reduce interaction with sensitive species that usually accompany tuna, PEVASA has recently initiated together with the fisheries research institute AZTI a study to analyze the possible measures to be implemented on board vessels to mitigate the impact on non-target species. For this, an AZTI technician has embarked during a tide in one of the ships that operate in the Atlantic Ocean to take measurements on deck and analyze the implementation of different tools on deck. Once the tide is over and with the data collected, the construction of a release ramp that will go directly to the sea with the minimum manipulation by the crew has been proposed.
